As the loss and despair experienced by Ukrainian families intensifies and Ukrainians stand firm in their courage, bravery, defiance and unwavering resilience – Canadians continue to answer the call for urgent help by supporting families fleeing fear and aggression, to make Canada their new home.
The United Nations refugee agency (UNHCR) has confirmed that more than six million Ukrainians and their families have fled their homeland, with this number expected to continue to rise to more than eight million displaced refugees.
The Government of Canada has enacted emergency measures that enable Ukrainian newcomers accelerated access to settle in Canada, with fast-tracked measures to apply for open work permits and stays for upwards of 10 years.
Matching the many skilled Ukrainian professionals arriving in Canada with job vacancies in the electricity sector will help fill critical labour shortages for an industry experiencing significant growth and innovation.
EHRC is proud to lead a series of new initiatives with its members and key electricity stakeholders to launch a Job Board for Ukrainians, offer funding for employers and HR resources customized for welcoming and integrating newcomers into the workplace. The initial response from employers and stakeholders is overwhelmingly positive. Let’s build on this momentum and continue to make a difference! To support or learn more, please contact Pat O’Donnell.
