Canada’s Electricity Industry Powers Up For Ukraine

Job opportunities for Ukrainians, new funding program for employers to help fill critical labour shortages in Canada’s electricity industry

Welcoming Ukrainian Newcomers

As the loss and despair experienced by Ukrainian families intensifies and Ukrainians stand firm in their courage, bravery, defiance and unwavering resilience – Canadians continue to answer the call for urgent help by supporting families fleeing fear and aggression, to make Canada their new home.

The United Nations refugee agency (UNHCR) has confirmed that more than six million Ukrainians and their families have fled their homeland, with this number expected to continue to rise to more than eight million displaced refugees.

The Government of Canada has enacted emergency measures that enable Ukrainian newcomers accelerated access to settle in Canada, with fast-tracked measures to apply for open work permits and stays for upwards of 10 years.

Matching the many skilled Ukrainian professionals arriving in Canada with job vacancies in the electricity sector will help fill critical labour shortages for an industry experiencing significant growth and innovation.

EHRC is proud to lead a series of new initiatives with its members and key electricity stakeholders to launch a Job Board for Ukrainians, offer funding for employers and HR resources customized for welcoming and integrating newcomers into the workplace. The initial response from employers and stakeholders is overwhelmingly positive. Let’s build on this momentum and continue to make a difference! Post Your Jobs for Ukrainians

EHRC’s Job Board provides a national platform to post and find career opportunities in every aspect of our sector. It enables employers to access national talent through EHRC’s easy-to-access, trusted online platform — ensuring the best candidates apply.

Building on our current national Job Board, employers can now connect with newly-arrived Ukrainian job-seekers who are equipped with skills, experience, education and the desire to work and settle into their new Canadian homes.

Post your jobs to EHRC’s Job Board to promote your positions. Ukrainian newcomers are arriving daily and will be actively seeking job opportunities – let’s make the electricity sector their first and preferred choice!

New Wage Subsidies Available for Employers to Recruit and Retain Foreign-Trained Professionals

Welcoming Newcomers is a new, federally-funded EHRC wage subsidy program to support employers as they recruit professionally skilled, internationally trained workers including Ukrainians and other nationalities. A four-month internship with a wage subsidy of up to 50% to a maximum of $10,000, is available to eligible employers.

We encourage employers to act quickly – competing industries are actively recruiting newcomers to fill their labour gaps.
