9:40 a.m. Industry Panel Discussion: Building Bright Futures Through Partnerships and Education
As our electricity system continues its transition to a sustainable energy future while grappling with intense labour shortages, the common denominator linking today to tomorrow is the industry’s most critical asset – its people. The intersection of Indigenous peoples and the electricity sector is multi-faceted and complex. As an untapped talent potential, as Indigenous communities hold governance on resource claims, and as our earliest environmental stewards, we must continue to come together to increase pan-Indigenous collaboration.
Engaging to understand, traveling to Indigenous communities to learn, and respecting wisdom and cultural tradition are integral to collaborations and partnership-building. During this panel we will speak to successful business partnerships, job opportunities, skills development, and youth engagement as we focus on the leading role that Indigenous Peoples can take in the development and ownership of Canada’s clean electricity future.
