EHRC’s 11th Annual Awards of Excellence

Marcia leads the People and Talent team comprised of client facing Human Resources Business Partners (HRBPs), Talent Management, Culture, Wellbeing, ED&I and Disability Management at TransAlta. Marcia has 22 years Human Resources experience within diverse industries – media, insurance, transportation, engineering and electricity. She has been at TransAlta since January 2013 and assumed the role of Vice President, People and Talent role in April 2018.

In addition, Marcia began leading HSSE and Business Services in November 2023. The HSSE team is responsible for all governance, reporting, programs and policies related to Health, Safety, Security and Environment. Business Services provides change management support and oversees facilities and corporate polices such as fleet management and business travel. Marcia has been a designated Human Resources professional since 2005.

Moe Kabbara is an experienced energy and climate professional with close to a decade of experience working at the intersection of technology, policy, and markets. Moe brings expertise in the areas of transportation electrification, renewable energy, energy storage, and energy efficiency. He is also a sought-after voice on zero-emission vehicle supply chain issues and has spearheaded the establishment of Accelerate, Canada’s zero-emission vehicle supply chain alliance.

Prior to joining the Accelerator, Moe was a Managing Consultant at Dunsky Energy + Climate. He was also a Senior Investment Officer at the Department of Innovation, Science, and Economic Development Canada. Moe also was the co-founder and CEO of a thermal energy storage start-up in Atlantic Canada.

Karen’s role is to oversee Bruce Power’s Human Resources function including Labour Relations, Recruitment, Talent Management, Employee Engagement, Ethics, Wellness and Total Rewards.

Karen has been with Bruce Power 15 years and held various roles within Human Resources as well as in the areas of Corporate Affairs, Strategic Support and Corporate Services. Prior to joining Bruce Power Karen worked for BlackBerry. She also is a board member with the Electricity of Human Resources Canada (EHRC) as well as a member of the Appeals Committee with the Girl Guides of Canada Board of Directors.

Karen holds an Executive MBA from Schulich- Kellogg program, has a degree in Business Administration from Wilfrid Laurier University as well as an Executive Certificate in Human Resources Leadership from Cornell University.
